25 years of partnership makes Infratec the industry standard

The Infratec is the standard for advanced grain analysis recognized and approved around the world. Before Infratec, the protein content of deliveries from farmers was an unknown. Now it is taken for granted. It’s predictable to within 0.1%, it can be measured in temperatures ranging from -4 to +40 C (-20° - 104° F) and it’s available in less than a minute from a unique global calibration. These are just some of the features that make the Infratec an unbeatable platform for profitable grain analysis in the years ahead.

Unique advantages inside and outside the box

No matter how many follow in the footsteps of the Infratec, it will always offer the latest in analytical hardware. This is as true for the current 5th generation as it was for the first Infratec 25 years ago. But even the best hardware is nothing without the right calibration. That’s why FOSS has collected valuable harvest data year after year for 25 years straight. Today the unique ANN calibration contains as many as 50,000 samples and 25 years of seasonal variations to which there are no short-cuts. The strength of the data gives unbeatable accuracy and stability as demonstrated by years of ring tests.

Infratec pays dividends

As a FOSS customer you can enjoy a continuous flow of value-adding innovations. A recent development is the advent of next generation networking and remote access tools which improve the overall performance of your instruments while reducing operational costs. These go well beyond off-the-shelf remote PC support tools and truly allow you to control, check and update calibrations simultaneously across large networks. This is just the beginning for these tools as they create opportunities not previously conceived.

And with options such as integrated digital quality assessment already in use in some regions of the world, there is so much more to come with Infratec.

Precision Near Infrared Analysis (NIR)

Infratec employs Near Infrared analysis in the transmission mode (NIT), a non-destructive spectroscopic technique that makes use of the naturally occurring electromagnetic spectrum. The NIR region is the area of the spectrum defined by wavelengths as between 700nm and 2500nm. The Infratec has a wavelength range of 570 – 1100 nm.

The Near Infrared area has proved to be the ideal spectral area to make natural product and chemical property measurements of liquid, solid, slurry or gaseous samples. All of the Near Infrared products are based on dispersive grating based monochromators as they afford the user the highest level of signal-to-noise available in any commercially available NIR product. Other advantages of the NIR spectral region are the variety of sampling materials that it can be used with, such as quartz glass and polyethylene bags for lab sample analysis and for in-line process measurement.

Fast and Flexible

The Infratec™ 1241 makes it easy to switch between small and large kernels, for example, from rapeseed to barley. Infratec is self-adjusting according to the selected commodity type.

Unaffected by temperature

Grain is analyzed during widely varying conditions, from hot summer days during harvest to cold winter deliveries. Thanks to Infratec’s patented stabilizing technique, you get correct results whatever the weather.

Unmatched calibration stability

The huge Infratec database comprises over 50,000 cross checked samples, PLS and robust ANN-based calibrations building on a wide sample range from over ten years of harvests. This gives a level of accuracy and stability that enables Infratec able to analyze even the most unusual samples.

Expand capabilities with additional modules

The Infratec™ 1241 is part of a modular system that includes a Flour module, a Test Weight module and a Sample Transport module to test small samples, wet samples and liquids.
