Soxtec™ Systems

Fast and safe solvent recovery

The Soxtec™ application range covers fat analysis in food and feed as well as soluble material in soil (eg. PCB, PAH), polymers, paper pulp and textiles. Typically five times faster than classic Soxhlet equipment, Soxtec provides rapid analysis with absolutely no loss in precision or accuracy.

Soxtec fat analysis

CasesA fully validated solution for total fat analysis

For the first time a commercially available, simplified solution for determination of total fat content has been collaboratively studied. Accuracy and precision were comparable to international standard methods presently in use.

Soxtec 2043

The Soxtec™ 2043

The Soxtec™ 2043 is a six-place solvent extraction system used for fast and safe determinations of soluble material in food, feed, soil, polymers, paper pulp and textiles.

The Soxtec™ 2045

The Soxtec™ 2045 is a two-place solvent recovery system used for fast and safe determinations of soluble material in food, feed, soil, polymers, paper pulp and textiles.

soxtec 2050

Soxtec™ 2050 system

The fully automated Soxtec™ 2050 system is used for fast and safe determinations of soluble material. It performs the four extraction steps fully unattended. Just load and start. The automatic shutdown feature permits out-of-hours operations allowing for high throughput of up to seven extractions, 42 samples per day. Batch handling tools ensure fast and safe handling of samples and cups.

soxtec 2055

Soxtec™ 2055

The semi-automated Soxtec™ 2055 system is used for fast and safe determinations of soluble material. It is ideal for laboratories with a lower throughput, offering many of the benefits and features of the fully automated Soxtec, but at a lower price. The system allows for a throughput of up to six extractions, 36 samples per day and includes batch handling tools that ensure fast and safe handling of samples and cups

The SoxCap system

The SoxCap system performs hydrolysis, filtration and washing with no need for sample transfer and minimum manual handling using the batch handling tools. The patented technique is based on the SoxCap capsule’s ability to hold the fat present in the sample during hydrolysis and release it during solvent extraction. Its capacity is six samples per batch and 36 samples per day.

Approved methods

The Soxtec systems are approved by the following methods:

  • AOAC 2003.05 & 2003.06 Crude fat in Feed, Cereal Grain and Forage (Diethyl-ether and hexane extraction methods)
  • AOAC 991.36 Fat (Crude) in Meat and Meat products
  • ISO 1444:1996 Meat and Meat products – Determination of free fat content
  • EPA 3541 Extraction of PCB in soil and sludge
  • SCAN-CM 49:93: Acetone soluble matter
  • SCAN-CM 67:03: Extractable, lipophilic matter in Paper Pulp
  • EN ISO 11085:2008 Cereals, cereals-based products and animal feeding stuffs — Determination of crude fat and total fat content by the Randall extraction method
  • EN ISO 6492:1999 Animal feeding stuff – fat analysis

Patented and safe four-step extraction process

The Soxtec 2050 performs the four extraction steps boiling, rinsing, solvent recovery and cup lifting fully unattended. When the sample has been loaded, the solvent is added in a closed, secure system. The solvent dispenser, automatic solvent recovery and built-in fume hood limit solvent vapour to a minimum to ensure a safe working environment.
